We’ve been using the Seal Mate fork seal repairers by Motion Pro. These handy little money savers are a simple flexible (thin) plastic tool that are designed to clean any dirt or foreign debris that gets stuck between your fork and the fork seals.
I think everyone can relate to the annoyance of finding one of your fork seals leaking. You know instantly that the bike, or your forks are heading off to your local dealer or bike shop for a $300 treatment to replace a cheap fork seal. The problem is, that unlike many jobs you can do on your bike in the garage at home, replacing fork seals is really a job for the pro’s.
The seal mate is the step (before) taking your bike into the shop, you simply remove the dust covers from your fork legs, and slide the seal mate into your seal, and run it around the edge (see full instructions here) to remove any foreign object causing your forks to leak. This takes only a couple of minutes, and in most cases will stop your forks from leaking.
The seal mates cost around $10 from your local dealer, and are a must have for the toolbox.
We give this handly little tool 10/10
