Firstly, take some time to carefully remove your old stickers. Use the old stickers to gather up bits of the old glue that stayed on the plastic. There is glue removers on the market, but your probably best to stay away from them. Thoroughly clean the plastic with some hot soapy water, and then with a soft cloth or towel and contact cleaner. You don’t want any oil or old bits of sticker on the surface. Allow plenty of time
to dry completely. Using a sharp blade, and a lot of caution, cut off one corner of the graphic sheet’s paper backing. Line up the graphics on the radiator shroud. When you have it nicely centered, press the exposed corner of the sticker into place. Now, working from the bottom to top, separate the backing from the graphic with one hand and press the graphic home with the other. Cut or peel back one corner of the tank graphic (if you have one), line up the sticker with the radiator shroud graphic, then set the one corner. Peel the backing away and press the tank sticker into place, working from one end to the other to limit the amount bubbles. For front and rear fender graphics, start at the end of the fender and press the center (flat) portion home first, then, using your fingers, work the graphic over the edges of the fender and onto the sides. Use the corner of a stanley knife to puncture bubbles, and rub flat with your finger or a plastic putty knife (you can also pick up a handy tool from your local signwriter that will do the same job). Lift one corner of the sticker for any larger bubbles. In most cases, it’s a good idea to remove fork guards for good sticker alignment. Start at the outside (most visible side) of the guard and align the sticker with this edge. Now work the sticker on each flat surface and curve with your fingers or signwriters tool. Your dirt bike should now be looking good as new after following these few easy steps! |
